Dr. Ziad Nahas (Interventional Psychiatry Lab) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking an outstanding candidate for a postdoctoral position to conduct and analyze the effects of neuromodulation on brain activity in mood disorders. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about advancing knowledge in the area of translational research of depressive disorders and other mental health conditions with a focus on invasive and non-invasive brain stimulation treatments. The position is available June 1, 2023, and funding is available for at least two years.
The primary project focuses on analysis of neuroimaging and electrophysiology data collected from research participants with treatment resistant depression prior to implantation with prefrontal cortical stimulation paddles and generators. This includes rsfMRI, intracranial recordings between surgical procedures, and baseline and monthly follow up EEGs during tasks and under different stimulation parameters.
We work with a dynamic and collaborative research team at the University of Minnesota, and a successful candidate will work at the forefront of understanding the neurobiology of mood disorders and will use this knowledge to inform personalized interventions. To meet this challenge, the candidate will receive supervision and mentoring from multiple team members across several departments. These include Dr. Theoden Netoff, Professor of Biomedical Engineering and the Director of the Center for Neuroengineering, Dr. Damien Fair, Director of the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain, and Dr. Oscar Miranda-Dominguez, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics. We offer an unparalleled learning community and unique facilities, research centers, funding, and career development opportunities, including the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research, the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain, the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute, and the Center for Neuroengineering.
