Egan Company is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Hardware Controls Engineer within the Industrial Controls group. In this exciting role within our Industrial Controls team. As Egan's business continues to grow with new industrial control customers serving a variety of markets. We are looking for strong technical leaders to help strengthen our team. *** This role could also be a Hybrid role, so working in the office in Champlin, MN and at home.***

Responsibilities:

The Senior Hardware Controls Engineer needs to have the following:

  • Provide detailed technical leadership and mentorship to others related to UL 508A control panel hardware design which includes three-phase systems, low voltage equipment, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, local networks, servos, VFDs, and safety equipment.

  • Knowledge and ability to specify, design and support hardware components for complex integrated systems.

  • Strong understanding of electrical system and control panel design.

  • Ability to understand, interpret and advise key technical and process information with customers, coworkers, and vendors.

  • Comfortable visiting customer facilities, walking equipment floors, complying with customer safety requirements, co-authoring project and design scope.

  • Ability to autonomously generate engineering bills of material and quote scope, create hardware and software system designs and layouts. Can read and understand mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and system architecture documents and specifications.

  • Proven ability to work and collaborate in a fast-paced and multi-disciplined work environment.

  • Understanding and ability to advise others on related electrical codes and standards, including UL 508A, UL 698A, NFPA 70, NFPA 79, NFPA 70E, ISO 13849.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with customers and coworkers to perform technical design and manufacturing work.

  • Create customer quotes, and engineering documents such as BOMs, CAD schematics, and layouts, and provide leadership and guidance to coworkers.

  • Support and lead project kickoffs, design reviews, daily engineering support of manufacturing, daily installation, and aftermarket product life cycle

Position Requirements:
  • Required: Minimum Associates Degree or equivalent job-related experience in AutoCAD-based hardware design of UL 508A control panels, hardware process design, industrial equipment design, estimating direct customer interaction, and safety system design.

  • PLC, HMI, VFD, networking programming are a plus.

  • Desired: Bachelor's Degree in a technical engineering-related field.

  • P.E. License a plus.

  • AutoCAD Electrical design experience, PLC and HMI controls programming experience with complex system integration projects.

Qualifications:
  • Previous experience with hardware selection for electrical systems is required, including ICP hardware design, power and control components, sensors, process equipment, networking, instrumentation, automation, and industrial controls.

  • Familiarity with a variety of hardware automation and control platforms, including Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider, Eaton, and Intellution is required.

  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills with a solid working knowledge of most Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite programs.

  • A successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of proven experience and can articulate how they successfully demonstrate the key responsibilities and requirements of this position.

  • Ability to remain focused and proactive and anticipate changes in supporting normal business workflow and shifting technologies and an ever-evolving industry with our expanding customer base.

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.

  • Local day-trip travel in the upper Midwest area, domestic travel up to a few weeks per year.
