Summary: Develop, apply, and maintain quality requirements and standards for the development and manufacture of quality products. Serve as main quality contact person regarding part acceptability and work directly with production, sales, and engineering to meet customer expectations. While working with QA Manager and leadership, assists BTD departments in problem-solving, corrective actions, and internal and external quality audits. Is a resource to train and improve operator awareness in regards to achieving customer quality expectations and requirements. Communicate all improvements made to ensure accurate future estimates and processing plans of current products.

Essential Functions:

  1. Capable of performing all Quality Engineer I job functions.
  2. Works with QA Manager and leadership to ensure BTD's quality reputation and customer expectations are not compromised.
  3. Participates in new part launch process, to ensure manufacturability of new products; reviews prints, customer specifications, and solid model if provided. As needed work with BTD and customer to implement actions to ensure parts meet customer requirements.
  4. Where problematic parts exist, in regards to process capability and as it affects part quality, engage Engineering, QA, and process experts to improve process capability.
  5. Works with Sales, QA Manager, and their customers to understand customer's specifications, part application, inspection methods, production processes, and all other factors affecting the production of the customer's parts.
  6. Works with Sales and the QA Manager to establish working relationships with customers, to assure that communication is being executed effectively. Communicates in person with customers as needed.
  7. Identifies weaknesses in BTD processes that negatively affect part quality and contributes ideas for corrective action. Works with leadership to make suggestions to improve processes.
  8. While working with QA Manager and leadership, participates in corrective action process; works cooperatively with responsible area to ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented. Leads containment activity and ensures customer relationship and BTD image are not adversely affected by quality spill.
  9. Responsible for assigning SPS storyboard for major quality problems. Works with QA Manager and problem solving team in completing SPS storyboard.
  10. With guidance from the QA Manager and leadership to create and implement customer QIPs as needed. Keeps customer updated on progress and works with customer on QIP terms, conveys terms to the organization.
  11. Understand the process to create process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, and control plans as required for PPAP submission. Works with QA manager to allocate resources to ensure that PPAP requirements are met for their customer accounts.
  12. Performs audits (ISO/LPA's) to validate adherence to BTD management system; assists QA Manager and leadership with developing appropriate corrective actions.
  13. Participates in morning MRB committee to assure that nonconforming product is dispositioned. Participates in afternoon RA review meeting to disposition RA's from the previous day.
  14. Can provide, communicate, and implement ideas that improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost in part processing
  15. Adhere to BTD's employee safety manual.
  16. Complies with BTD's management system and processes.
  17. Performs other work-related duties as requested.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong knowledge of BTD manufacturing or quality department experience or previous outside experience. Strong Customer Print reading skills and part application.

Experience and Skills Required: At least two years of recent BTD experience in operations, manufacturing engineering or quality (outside experience in similar organizations with similar processes may substitute) which include the following skills and abilities:

  1. Ability to effectively communicate with computer, phone, drawings, and written skills.
  2. Possesses the skills to manage customer quality projects.
  3. Strong working knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods, and practices in the use of metal manufacturing operations.
  4. Working knowledge of medium to heavy manufacturing environment.
  5. Ability to read, interpret, and understand the use and application of production blueprints and specifications.
  6. Ability to perform quality inspections of products.
  7. Ability to establish, encourage, and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  8. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including: Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
  9. Experience using SolidWorks.
  10. Must possess a valid Driver's License.
