Your Impact:
As the Operations Director, you'll be at the helm of driving operational excellence and enhancing support services for our research teams. Picture yourself collaborating with Managers and Program Directors to shape, implement, and enhance cutting-edge research initiatives. Your impact will be felt across the entire clinical and translational research enterprise.

Program Development and Implementation (40%)

  • Navigate the development and delivery of groundbreaking research service programs within CTRS.
  • Chart a course for high-quality research services, refining policies and procedures to ensure compliance and boost research effectiveness.
  • Steer initiatives supporting efficient clinical research study startup and initial enrollment, serving the entire research enterprise.
  • Build comprehensive services and tools, fostering relationships with health system partners and internal/external groups.
  • Proactively identify challenges, gaps, and opportunities for process improvement, integrating researcher feedback and community input.

Leadership, Operational Management, and Program Evaluation (35%)

  • Collaborate with CTRS leadership to set the strategic direction for operations, aligning structure, resources, and timelines.
  • Develop operational and programmatic metrics to evaluate quality and impact, ensuring alignment with CTSA metrics.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and coaching staff to foster development among CTRS.
  • Lead and champion CTRS DEI efforts to create an inclusive workplace culture and drive initiatives forward.
  • Own workflows and processes for seamless onboarding experiences, promoting a person-centric and collaborative environment.
  • Develop a comprehensive framework for identifying and tracking key operational metrics aligned with organizational objectives and grant metrics.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define and establish key performance indicators that align with operational goals.
  • Define clear and measurable metrics of success for organizational initiatives in consultation with leadership and subject matter experts.

Institutional and Partner Collaborations (25%)

  • Represent CTRS in interactions with departments, university groups, health system partners, and external organizations.
  • Improve workflows for clinical research in M Health Clinics and Surgery Center, enhancing awareness of research opportunities, and partnering with CTSI functions to integrate research into clinical operations.
  • Support and facilitate the University of Minnesota's active engagement in the Trial Innovation Network (TIN). This involves promoting TIN initiatives, identifying avenues for researchers to harness TIN resources, and pinpointing researchers who can actively participate in TIN studies.
  • Represent UMN in CTSA special interest groups, identifying opportunities to disseminate work and collaborate on initiatives.
  • Collaborate with key entities across the University, including the Research and Innovation Office (RIO), Institutional Review Board (IRB), Office of Academic Clinical Affairs (OACA), and Medical School Departments, to conceive and execute novel clinical research services and support initiatives. Tailor these endeavors to meet enterprise requirements, enhance regulatory compliance, and propel the effectiveness and efficiency of research endeavors.

Operational Priorities:

  • Operational priorities are ever-evolving, focusing on engagement and special initiatives/projects.
  • Collaborate with CTSA and Hub Partners, ensuring alignment across CTRS and cores.
  • Embrace a bridge-building role, connecting diverse elements for a seamless and cohesive operational strategy.
  • Drive staff engagement through initiatives that prioritize professional development, skill acquisition, and opportunities for growth.
  • Implement strategies to enhance team motivation, job satisfaction, and a sense of purpose, creating an empowered and enthusiastic workforce.
  • Proactively identify and address factors that contribute to staff engagement, ensuring a positive and supportive workplace for all team members.
Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.

Qualifications

  • A BA/BS with at least ten (10) years of experience or an advanced degree with eight (8) years of experience.
  • Four (4) years of supervisory experience is a must, along with extensive experience in clinical and/or translational research processes.
  • Proficiency in collaborating with individuals across all organizational tiers, including senior-level administrators, faculty, and staff, showcasing effective interpersonal skills.
  • Certification as a Clinical Research Professional or qualification to sit for the exam.
  • Ability to navigate clinical environments and workflows, with knowledge of research regulations and guidance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician's Assistant, or other applicable clinical degree/certification.
  • CTSI/CTSA experience or similar research infrastructure system in a large organization.
  • Experience working within a large academic research institution, demonstrating an understanding of the unique structures, processes and collaborative initiatives inherent to such organizations.
  • Experience with clinical trial management systems and electronic medical record systems, coupled with a track record of leading operational and cultural change.

The University of Minnesota Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) mission is to accelerate and improve clinical and translational science research, education and improve health. CTSI provides consultation, training, support, and services to researchers and research teams across the translational continuum. CTSI is part of the national, NIH-funded Clinical Translational Science Award (CTSA) program/consortium that works together to improve the efficiency, quality, and impact of clinical and translational research and science.
