Job Description

OVERVIEW

The Sensory Scientist provides strategic product guidance to optimize the total product experience through smart Sensory Design while safeguarding the critical design principles and the job to be done. This role will support the Cereal Operating Unit and more specifically the Adult Cereal category of brands, like Cheerios. In this role, the development you will receive is:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Partner with Consumer & Market Intelligence, Research and Development, Marketing, Packaging, Supply Chain, and other business and product teams to guide the optimization of new products, product improvements, and protect product quality as designed
  • Drive projects through appropriate product and packaging consumer and sensory learning plans from optimization to confirmatory testing, inclusive of building foundational product knowledge, protecting product quality, and enhancing consumer understanding
  • Facilitate consumer interactions to grow consumer empathy
  • Courageously champion product design and product quality as the sensory subject matter expert on business teams
  • Collaborate with global team members to share learnings and best practices
  • Apply design of experiments to sensory and consumer testing
  • Synthesize qualitative consumer learning and interpret statistical analysis of results of quantitative sensory and consumer testing
  • Communicate key findings in a relevant and easy to understand manner and guide the business teams to next steps and additional questions to be answered on the learning journey to inform the product development process.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters Degree in Sensory Science, Food Science with an emphasis on Sensory Science, Psychology, Statistics, Behavioral Science, Human Factors, Consumer Experience or related fields
  • Exceptional interpersonal, collaboration, and influence skills with technical and business facing teams or consumers
  • Strong communication skills with an emphasis on strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage resources and leverage existing data to effectively lead multiple projects

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience planning and executing sensory and/or consumer research in partnership with Product Design teams and/or Consumer Insights
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, consumers or customers
  • Fundamental understanding of applied statistical analysis, including design of experiments and multivariate analysis techniques
  • Experience in using advanced statistics and modeling, to provide advanced analytic solutions to product and business teams
  • Experience in using Natural Language Processing (NLP) and machine learning algorithms to uncover impactful insights from textual data

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S in an on-going fashion. General Mills will not sponsor applicants for a U.S. work visa.

Salary Range



The salary range for this position is $62300.00 - $85800.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
