Overview
USU Blanding is seeking applicants for a Mental Health Community Outreach Coordinator (Program Coordinator I) position. The incumbent will work in coordination with the mental health counselor to support individuals as they develop positive community connections as part of their recovery process. The coordinator will identify resources, build partnerships, and provide support within the community to ensure that each student has access to the mental health services they need.

Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with local organizations, providing resources, outreach, and education on mental health.
  • Work collaboratively with the NASNTI Tribal Liaison on community outreach and mental health education.
  • Build relationships with local community partners to assist in the management and execution of collaborative mental health projects.
  • Assist students in applying for services and benefits.
  • Support and coordinate efforts with school mental health and advising departments and services, as well as serve on campus committees.
  • Maintain and monitor a database of community partners, mental health service providers, community-based outreach, and engagement activities.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and follow up on needed mental health student services.
  • Maintain professional and effective relationships with students, faculty, administration, and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, public health, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience.
  • Proven ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively, maintain confidentiality, and work independently under general supervision.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with students, family members, school staff, and relevant community organizations.
  • Must have the ability to identify community resources and services for students and coordinate the provision of services.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and understanding of college student behavior and knowledge regarding chemical dependency, mental health, juvenile justice, and other significant youth issues and needs.
  • Two (2) years of qualifying experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indian communities, regional tribal history, politics, and Native American/Alaska Native culture.
  • Experience working with minority groups, especially Native American and low-income students. Conversant in Navajo Language preferred but not required.
