Job/Internship Description

CompleteRx has an opportunity for a Pharmacy Intern (PRN) to help provide exceptional patient care at a 96-bed acute care facility located in Greenville, Texas. This role will provide coverage as needed during the day and weekend shifts, as you're available to pick up hours.

Hospital Overview:

Hunt Regional Medical Center is a large hospital in Northeast Texas that offers exceptional healthcare services to residents of Greenville and nearby cities. Our hospital provides an extensive list of outpatient and diagnostic services.

Position Summary:

The Pharmacy Intern is a student who is completing the experiential hours necessary to qualify for the pharmacist licensing exam. The Pharmacy Intern reviews medication orders, prepares, and dispenses medications according to policy and procedures, and State and Federal law. The Pharmacy Intern participates in patient care rounds or conferences and formulates answers to drug information questions.

PRN opportunities include:

Flexible work schedule, as coverage is needed for the following shifts:

  • Monday-Friday Hours: 10:30A - 9P
  • Saturday/Sunday Hours: 8A - 6:30P
  • Pay differential for 2nd shift and the weekend shift.

What You Will Do

Reviews and verifies medication orders, and regularly reviews patients' medication regimens for potential improvements under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.

  • Participates in determining the appropriateness of a medication order, including age-related factors.
  • Maintain accurate patient medication profiles.
  • Prepares and dispenses all medications using appropriate techniques according to accepted practice or established policies and procedures.
  • Follows IV order processing procedures, performs calculations for admixture preparations, and prepares products using an aseptic technique.
  • Oversee pharmacy technicians assisting with medication distribution functions.
  • Document interventions, adverse drug reactions, and medication errors according to established policy and procedures. Collects data for drug usage evaluations. Supports and/or participates in organizational performance to continuously improve patient outcomes and/or processes.
  • Able to answer drug information questions. Sometimes developing solutions based on primary literature.

Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department:

  • Supervises and directs pharmacy support personnel. Verifies the daily activities of pharmacy technicians.
  • Coordinates and completes all assigned medication storage area inspections in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to infection control protocols.
  • Supports and/or participates in organizational performance to continuously improve patient outcomes and/or processes. Sign/Initial logs and maintain audit trails necessary to account for medications until they are administered to patients. Records may be countersigned by a registered pharmacist.
  • Analyzes dispensing error reports and suggests actions to prevent reoccurrences.

Maintains competency required for current job title/position:

  • Attends pharmacy staff meetings.
  • Attends orientation, education, and training programs.
  • Completes all competency/skills assessment requirements including aseptic technique and preparation of IV admixtures.

What You Will Need

Requirements:

  • Completed at least the first two years of pharmacy school.
  • Registered with the State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Intern in the state of practice/employment.
