About the Job

Summary of Position:
Short term position for laboratory researcher who will assist lab members with experiments.

Duties & Responsibilities:

60% Carry out laboratory procedures and experiments that involve standard molecular biology techniques, including site-directed mutagenesis, SDS gel electrophoresis and western blotting. The employee will assist lab members in the generation of strains of social amoeba, analysis of their phenotype and purification of proteins for in vitro studies.

15% Generate and maintain complete records of experimental procedures and results, both manually and in designated computer files and folders. Prepare weekly summaries of results in PowerPoint presentations, summarizing results in charts and simple picture galleries.

15% Operate routine lab equipment such as balances, pH meters, Coulter counter, centrifuges, thermal cycler and electroporator. Collect images using phase/DIC microscope and spinning disc confocal microscope.

10% Assist with general laboratory maintenance, including making media for cell growth, cleaning and autoclaving glassware.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications Must Be Documented In Application Materials

Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate Junior or Senior with coursework in Introductory Chemistry and Organic Chemistry as well as Molecular Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Physics and associated labs.
HS degree or GED

Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with Protein Biochemistry

About the Department

The comprises faculty from both the Medical School and the College of Biological Sciences. Faculty members are engaged in research in three key disciplines of the department-genetics, cell biology and developmental biology.
