Job Description

Summary of Position

To work with children daily and to carry out the responsibilities of the summer day camp program.

This is a temporary full time summer position without benefits.

Expected pay is from $15.50-$17.00 per hour; DOQ.

Day Camp Dates are from June 17, 2024 - August 23, 2024.
Work shifts are from 8AM-4:30PM or 9:00AM-6:00PM

Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma
  2. Totally committed on an emotional, spiritual, and intellectual level to the objectives of the day camp and the children in your care.
  3. Proven experience supervising and working with children.
  4. Be a team player as well as able to work independently.
  5. Ability to accept supervision and guidance.
  6. Have good character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, a sense of humor, patience, self-control and be organized and self-motivated.
  7. Ability to communicate and work with groups of varying age and skills levels, and provide necessary instruction to children and/or staff.
  8. Ability to observe children's behaviors, measure its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
  9. Certified in CPR and have had first aid training.
  10. It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
  11. Ability to pass the background checks.

Description of Position

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure the safety of the children in your care.
  2. Supervise children.
  3. Learn the likes/dislikes of each child in your group.
  4. Prepare and lead the activities as part of the program each day and participate during all activities, including those that are messy or wet.
  5. Encourage children to be individuals, creative and to participate and try new things.
  6. Look for ways to enable each child to experience success - celebrate their successes and encourage them to try again when they fail.
  7. Provide opportunities for discussion on individual or group problems or concerns.
  8. Encourage respect for individuals and their differences.
  9. Recognize and take advantage of teachable moment's everyday.
  10. Set a good example for children and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean up and chores, sportsmanship, and table manners.
  11. Help participants develop a sense of fair play, accepting both winning and losing graciously.
  12. Sit with and be attentive to children during lunch and snack times.
  13. Carry a first aid kit during fieldtrips and ensure it is properly stocked.

Staff Responsibilities:

  1. Be a constructive member of the staff contributing in every way possible to the health, harmony, and happiness of the Summer Day Camp.
  2. Assist where needed for the benefits of the children and the smooth operation of the program.
  3. And all other duties as assigned.
