PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Project Technician actively participates on teams that deliver technical solutions that significantly impact the residential roofing business. Owens Corning's Roofing & Asphalt division is a $4 billion business operating 15 manufacturing locations across the United States. This role contributes to the business's success by providing technical support on projects designed to create new products as well as improve the quality and productivity of our roofing operations.

Reports to: Shingles Aesthetics and Innovation Engineer

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrates an unconditional commitment to safety

  • Implements a personal safety action plan and executes with excellence, including conducting non-routine task hazard assessments and actively participating in safety events and plant trial safety huddles.
  • Drives process improvements in working areasto ensure the safety of all

Improves Roofing Quality and Productivity Though Innovation

  • Teams with scientists and engineers to develop and validate innovations that will improve roofing product features, quality, and productivity
  • Utilizes knowledge of quality metrics to help design manufacturing plant, pilot, and lab-scale trials
  • Tests material produced during trials to validate trial hypotheses
  • Provides basic analysis of trial data
  • Creates equipment prototypes to test new ideas
  • Participates in plant trials across North America
  • Develops new test methods
  • Balances multiple assignments across multiple projects

Acts as Primary Shingle Aesthetics Approver

  • Core team member in trialing new shingle colors or technology
  • Advises and coordinates with plants on process changes that will affect aesthetics.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree in a technical field is required.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Technical aptitude for manufacturing processes
  • Must understand and use basic data analysis and be comfortable using a computer. A working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) required.
  • Mechanical, hands-on aptitude
  • Travel: 20-40% (majority of travel pre - planned)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in a manufacturing and laboratory environment
  • Hands on experience in product testing
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt is a plus

  • Self-starter who works with minimal supervision and balances multiple assignments
  • Comfortable and confident in a team environment; naturally wants to help others.
  • Works effectively across technology and production groups to ensure project success

  • Willingly takes responsibility for project outcomes as a whole
